You Made $100K on a 1099. Nobody Warned You About This Tax Bill.

You made $100,000 as an independent contractor — more than you ever made as a W-2 employee. Then April hits, and the IRS wants over $25,000. Nobody withheld it. Nobody warned you.

In this video, I run the actual math on a $100,000 net profit, line by line, so you can see exactly where that number comes from — the 92.35% adjustment, the 15.3% self-employment tax, the deductions the IRS gives you, and the underpayment penalty most people don't find out about until it's already on the bill.

Then I show you the three moves that shrink it:

Form an LLC and elect S-corp taxation — pay yourself a reasonable wage and stop paying self-employment tax on all $100,000. In this scenario, it's a $6,068 difference.
Set up and fund a solo 401(k) — you plan for retirement AND cut the tax bill at the same time. Dual benefit.
Actually pay your taxes — quarterly estimates or W-2 withholding kills the underpayment penalty entirely.

Sole proprietor in California: $28,120 in total tax. S-corp with a solo 401(k): $20,548.

Same $100,000. Same work. $7,572 difference — and more money left to live on.

My name is Tyrone Gregory, and I've been an Enrolled Agent for over 16 years. I don't sell loopholes, and I don't sell fear. I show you the math and let you decide.

These videos will teach you how to run the numbers, be aware of what's real and what's false, and what you should be doing in your business. ⚠️ DISCLAIMER: This video is educational and not tax, legal, or financial advice. The scenario shown is deliberately simplified — single filer, no dependents, one income source, 2025 figures. Your numbers will be different. S-corp status also carries costs not modeled here (payroll processing, an additional return, and state-level entity taxes such as California's franchise tax). Consult a qualified tax professional about your specific situation.
