Think of a deficit like holding your breath underwater while swimming laps.

Refeeds are like coming up for a quick gasp of air every few strokes.
Diet Breaks are like swimming to the wall and holding on for a minute.

In practice this might look like doing a refeed (1-3 days at maintenance) every 3 weeks of your deficit and diet break (lets say 4-10 days) every 6- 10 weeks.

Simply raise your calories by 20% through carbohydrates.
