How to Cut and Sew a Stylish Barrel Pant with Side Drawstrings

Learn how to cut and sew a stylish barrel pant/trouser with side drawstrings in this easy step-by-step tutorial. This design has a relaxed, curved-leg silhouette with adjustable side drawstrings for a stylish finish.
Step 1 – Take Measurements
Measure your waist, hip, desired trouser length, thigh, knee, and ankle. Add your preferred ease for a comfortable fit.
Step 2 – Draft the Pattern
Draft the front and back trouser patterns using your measurements. Create the curved barrel shape by allowing the leg to widen around the knee and curve slightly inward toward the hem.
Step 3 – Add Seam Allowance
Add seam allowance around the pattern pieces and include extra allowance at the waist and hem for finishing.
Step 4 – Cut the Fabric
Place the pattern on your fabric, pin securely, and cut the front and back pieces. Also cut the waistband, pocket pieces, and drawstring casings.
