What would you ask for if you were pregnant, shackled, and waiting to be executed?
In Day 22 of Bibles Not Bombs, we tell the story of Mariam Ibraheem, a Sudanese Christian woman who was sentenced to 100 lashes and death by hanging after refusing to deny her faith in Jesus Christ.
While in prison, Mariam continued ministering to the women around her. She shared the gospel, prayed, encouraged the broken, and tried to bring the love of Christ into one of the darkest places imaginable.
But she was spiritually hungry.
She had grown up reading the Bible every day, and now, inside prison, she desperately needed the Word of God to nourish her soul. Getting a Bible into a Sudanese prison seemed impossible, but Mariam believed God could make a way.
So she took a risk.
Through a dangerous chain of help, a Bible was smuggled into the prison. Mariam held it close to her chest as her most precious possession. She was pregnant. She was in chains. She was facing death. But the Word of God gave her strength.
This episode reminds us that the Bible is not just a religious book. For persecuted believers, it is life, courage, nourishment, and hope.

Question for today: If your Bible was taken away, how hungry would you be to get it back?
