Portland based Panthalassa is building self-propelled steel nodes that float in the deep ocean, turn wave motion into electricity, and use that power on the spot to run AI chips. The surrounding seawater cools the hardware for free, and finished results are beamed back to land by low Earth orbit satellites. The company raised 140 million dollars in a Series B led by Peter Thiel and plans its Ocean-3 pilot in the northern Pacific.
