Iran on May 10 claimed that a US F-35 stealth fighter jet declared an emergency while flying near the Strait of Hormuz amid rising tensions in the Gulf. According to Tehran, the aircraft transmitted the universal aviation distress code ‘7700’ over the Gulf of Oman before disappearing from public flight tracking systems near UAE airspace. The United States has not officially commented on the incident. The development comes just days after a US KC-135 military tanker reported a similar emergency and vanished from public radar over the Gulf. Aviation experts say such incidents may involve mechanical issues, operational secrecy or even electronic interference, including GPS jamming and signal spoofing.
